1010 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1111 AN ACT
1212 relating to the earliest day a public school teacher may be required
1313 to report for service.
1414 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1515 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1616 amended by adding Section 21.010 to read as follows:
1717 Sec. 21.010. FIRST DAY OF TEACHER SERVICE. (a) Except as
1818 provided by Subsection (b), a school district may not require a
1919 teacher to report for service at the beginning of a school year
2020 earlier than the seventh business day before the first day that
2121 instruction will be provided to students.
2222 (b) A school district may require a teacher who is in the
2323 teacher's first year of employment with the district to report for
2424 service at the beginning of a school year up to 10 business days
2525 before the first day that instruction will be provided to students.
2626 SECTION 2. Section 21.010, Education Code, as added by this
2727 Act, applies beginning with the 2018-2019 school year.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
