55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the application of the open meetings law to district
88 judges performing certain management or administrative functions.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 551.001(3), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (3) "Governmental body" means:
1313 (A) a board, commission, department, committee,
1414 or agency within the executive or legislative branch of state
1515 government that is directed by one or more elected or appointed
1616 members;
1717 (B) a county commissioners court in the state;
1818 (C) a municipal governing body in the state;
1919 (D) a deliberative body that has rulemaking or
2020 quasi-judicial power and that is classified as a department,
2121 agency, or political subdivision of a county or municipality;
2222 (E) a school district board of trustees;
2323 (F) a county board of school trustees;
2424 (G) a county board of education;
2525 (H) the governing board of a special district
2626 created by law;
2727 (I) a local workforce development board created
2828 under Section 2308.253;
2929 (J) a nonprofit corporation that is eligible to
3030 receive funds under the federal community services block grant
3131 program and that is authorized by this state to serve a geographic
3232 area of the state;
3333 (K) a nonprofit corporation organized under
3434 Chapter 67, Water Code, that provides a water supply or wastewater
3535 service, or both, and is exempt from ad valorem taxation under
3636 Section 11.30, Tax Code; [and]
3737 (L) a joint board created under Section 22.074,
3838 Transportation Code; and
3939 (M) a gathering of two or more district judges
4040 performing any management or administrative function that does not
4141 involve the adjudication of an individual case.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
