9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. The heading to Section 259.002, Health and | |
11 | 11 | Safety Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 259.002. REQUIREMENTS FOR PRACTICING SURGICAL | |
13 | 13 | TECHNOLOGY; CONTINUING EDUCATION. | |
14 | 14 | SECTION 2. Section 259.002, Health and Safety Code, is | |
15 | 15 | amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
16 | 16 | (d) A person employed by a health care facility to practice | |
17 | 17 | surgical technology under Subsection (a)(2) or (3) or Subsection | |
18 | 18 | (c) shall complete fifteen hours of continuing education each year | |
19 | 19 | and submit evidence of the satisfactory completion of the | |
20 | 20 | continuing education to the facility. The facility may not | |
21 | 21 | continue to employ the person if the person does not complete the | |
22 | 22 | continuing education required by this subsection. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 259.002(d), Health and | |
24 | 24 | Safety Code, as added by this Act, a person employed by a health | |
25 | 25 | care facility to practice surgical technology is not required to | |
26 | 26 | complete the continuing education before September 1, 2018. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
