99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 259.002, Health and
1111 Safety Code, is amended to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 259.002. REQUIREMENTS FOR PRACTICING SURGICAL
1313 TECHNOLOGY; CONTINUING EDUCATION.
1414 SECTION 2. Section 259.002, Health and Safety Code, is
1515 amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1616 (d) A person employed by a health care facility to practice
1717 surgical technology under Subsection (a)(2) or (3) or Subsection
1818 (c) shall complete fifteen hours of continuing education each year
1919 and submit evidence of the satisfactory completion of the
2020 continuing education to the facility. The facility may not
2121 continue to employ the person if the person does not complete the
2222 continuing education required by this subsection.
2323 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 259.002(d), Health and
2424 Safety Code, as added by this Act, a person employed by a health
2525 care facility to practice surgical technology is not required to
2626 complete the continuing education before September 1, 2018.
2727 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
