| 8 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 142, Human Resources Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | adding Section 142.007 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | Sec. 142.007. POST-DISCHARGE SERVICES. (a) For purposes |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | of this section, "post-discharge services" means community-based |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | services offered after a child is discharged from probation to |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | support the child's vocational, educational, behavioral, or other |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | goals and to provide continuity for the child as the child |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | transitions out of juvenile probation services. The term includes: |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | (1) behavioral health services; |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | (2) mental health services; |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | (3) substance abuse services; |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | (4) mentoring; |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | (5) job training; and |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | (6) educational services. |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | (b) Provided that existing resources are available, a |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | juvenile board or juvenile probation department may provide |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | post-discharge services to a child for not more than six months |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | after the date the child is discharged from probation, regardless |
|---|
| 27 | 29 | | of the age of the child on that date. |
|---|
| 28 | 30 | | (c) A juvenile board or juvenile probation department may |
|---|
| 29 | 31 | | not require a child to participate in post-discharge services. |
|---|
| 30 | 32 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
