46 AN ACT
57 relating to post-discharge services offered by a juvenile board or
68 juvenile probation department to a child after the child's
79 probation period ends.
810 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
911 SECTION 1. Chapter 142, Human Resources Code, is amended by
1012 adding Section 142.007 to read as follows:
1113 Sec. 142.007. POST-DISCHARGE SERVICES. (a) For purposes
1214 of this section, "post-discharge services" means community-based
1315 services offered after a child is discharged from probation to
1416 support the child's vocational, educational, behavioral, or other
1517 goals and to provide continuity for the child as the child
1618 transitions out of juvenile probation services. The term includes:
1719 (1) behavioral health services;
1820 (2) mental health services;
1921 (3) substance abuse services;
2022 (4) mentoring;
2123 (5) job training; and
2224 (6) educational services.
2325 (b) Provided that existing resources are available, a
2426 juvenile board or juvenile probation department may provide
2527 post-discharge services to a child for not more than six months
2628 after the date the child is discharged from probation, regardless
2729 of the age of the child on that date.
2830 (c) A juvenile board or juvenile probation department may
2931 not require a child to participate in post-discharge services.
3032 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
