| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section | |
| 13 | 13 | 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has | |
| 14 | 14 | concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in: | |
| 15 | 15 | (1) family law cases and proceedings; and | |
| 16 | 16 | (2) civil cases in which the matter in controversy | |
| 17 | 17 | does not exceed $1 million [$750,000], excluding interest, | |
| 18 | 18 | statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees | |
| 19 | 19 | and costs, as alleged on the page of the petition. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. The change in law made to Section 25.1102(a), | |
| 21 | 21 | Government Code, by this Act applies only to an action filed in a | |
| 22 | 22 | statutory county court of Hidalgo County on or after the effective | |
| 23 | 23 | date of this Act. An action filed in a statutory county court of | |
| 24 | 24 | Hidalgo County before the effective date of this Act is governed by | |
| 25 | 25 | the law in effect on the date the action was filed, and the former | |
| 26 | 26 | law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
