9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 28.004(d), Education Code, is amended to | |
11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (d) The board of trustees shall appoint at least five | |
13 | 13 | members to the local school health advisory council. A majority of | |
14 | 14 | the members must be persons who are parents of students enrolled in | |
15 | 15 | the district and who are not employed by the district. One of those | |
16 | 16 | members shall serve as chair or co-chair of the council. The board | |
17 | 17 | of trustees also may appoint one or more persons from each of the | |
18 | 18 | following groups or a representative from a group other than a group | |
19 | 19 | specified under this subsection: | |
20 | 20 | (1) public school teachers; | |
21 | 21 | (2) public school administrators; | |
22 | 22 | (3) district students; | |
23 | 23 | (4) health care professionals; | |
24 | 24 | (5) the business community; | |
25 | 25 | (6) law enforcement; | |
26 | 26 | (7) senior citizens; | |
27 | 27 | (8) the clergy; | |
28 | 28 | (9) nonprofit health organizations; [and] | |
29 | 29 | (10) local domestic violence programs; and | |
30 | 30 | (11) nutritionists or registered dietitians. | |
31 | 31 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
32 | 32 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
33 | 33 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
34 | 34 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
35 | 35 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
