77 relating to a limitation on civil suits against persons reporting
88 suspicious activity in good faith.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Title 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is
1111 amended by adding Chapter 128A to read as follows:
1212 CHAPTER 128A. LIMITATION ON SUITS AGAINST CERTAIN PERSONS
1313 REPORTING SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
1414 Sec. 128A.001. LIMITATION ON CIVIL ACTION. A civil action
1515 related to a report of suspicious activity of another person to an
1616 appropriate law enforcement authority may not be brought against
1717 the person who made the report if the person made the report in good
1818 faith with a reasonable belief that the suspicious activity
1919 constitutes or is in furtherance of a crime, including an act of
2020 terrorism.
2121 SECTION 2. Section 128A.001, Civil Practice and Remedies
2222 Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a cause of action that
2323 accrues on or after the effective date of this Act.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
