77 relating to notice provided by an applicant to house inmates
88 released on parole or to mandatory supervision.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 508, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 508.158 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 508.158. ALTERNATIVE HOUSING PROGRAM. The department
1313 shall require that an applicant to participate as a provider in a
1414 program designed to provide alternative housing for two or more
1515 unrelated releasees must provide notice by mail of the applicant's
1616 request to participate in the program to each public school,
1717 including an open-enrollment charter school, private school, or
1818 day-care facility located within 1,000 feet of the proposed
1919 alternative housing location. The department shall require the
2020 applicant to submit with the application, in the manner specified
2121 by the department, a list of each school or facility provided notice
2222 under this section and an affidavit of the applicant stating that
2323 the applicant has complied with this section.
2424 SECTION 2. (a) Not later than December 1, 2017, the Texas
2525 Department of Criminal Justice shall update application forms as
2626 necessary to implement Section 508.158, Government Code, as added
2727 by this Act.
2828 (b) Section 508.158, Government Code, as added by this Act,
2929 applies only to an application to participate in a program
3030 described by that section that is submitted on or after January 1,
3131 2018.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
