410 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
511 AN ACT
612 relating to the use of land in the William Goodrich Jones State
713 Forest.
814 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
915 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 88, Education Code, is
1016 amended by adding Section 88.1085 to read as follows:
1117 Sec. 88.1085. USE OF LAND IN WILLIAM GOODRICH JONES STATE
1218 FOREST. (a) For the purpose of this section, the "Jones State
1319 Forest" means the real property owned by the state for the use and
1420 benefit of The Texas A&M University System to demonstrate
1521 reforestation work under the Texas A&M Forest Service, consisting
16- of approximately 1,722 acres in Montgomery County, and formally
22+ of approximately 1,733 acres in Montgomery County, and formally
1723 dedicated and named the William Goodrich Jones State Forest.
1824 (b) The entire territory of the Jones State Forest must
19- remain natural, scenic, undeveloped, and open in a manner that
20- maintains the tree canopy cover of the forest. No statute, rule,
25+ remain natural, scenic, undeveloped, and open. No statute, rule,
2126 policy, or ordinance may be enforced with respect to the territory
2227 of the Jones State Forest, other than a statute, rule, policy, or
2328 ordinance that protects and preserves the natural resources, air
2429 quality, or water quality of the Jones State Forest.
2530 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
