| 8 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 11 | | SECTION 1. STUDY ON TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY. (a) The Health |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | and Human Services Commission in conjunction with the Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | Workforce Commission shall conduct a study regarding occupational |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | training programs available in this state for individuals with an |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | intellectual disability. |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | (b) The study must: |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | (1) determine regions in this state where the training |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | programs should be improved or expanded; and |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | (2) determine strategies for placing trained |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | individuals with intellectual disabilities into fulfilling jobs |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | using existing or improved training programs. |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | (c) Not later than December 1, 2018, the Health and Human |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | Services Commission shall report the results of the study to the |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | representatives, and the appropriate standing committees of the |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | senate and the house of representatives. |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | (d) This section expires September 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 27 | 29 | | SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|---|
| 28 | 30 | | 1, 2017. |
