| 7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 42.005, Education Code, is amended by |

| 9 | 11 | | adding Subsection (g-1) to read as follows: |

| 10 | 12 | | (g-1) The commissioner shall adopt rules to calculate |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | average daily attendance for students participating in a blended |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | learning program in which classroom instruction is supplemented |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | with applied workforce learning opportunities, including |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | participation of students in internships, externships, and |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | apprenticeships. |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | school year. |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
