| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1020.051(c), Special District Local Laws | |
| 11 | 11 | Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (c) An election shall be held on the uniform election date | |
| 13 | 13 | in November [May] of each appropriate year to elect the appropriate | |
| 14 | 14 | number of directors. | |
| 15 | 15 | SECTION 2. (a) At the election of the board of directors of | |
| 16 | 16 | the Deaf Smith County Hospital District scheduled to be held in | |
| 17 | 17 | November 2018, all board member positions will be up for election. | |
| 18 | 18 | The terms of the directors serving immediately before the date of | |
| 19 | 19 | the election expire on the date a majority of the directors elected | |
| 20 | 20 | at the November 2018 election have qualified for office. | |
| 21 | 21 | (b) The members of the board of directors elected in | |
| 22 | 22 | November 2018 under Subsection (a) of this section shall draw lots | |
| 23 | 23 | to determine which three directors shall serve two-year terms and | |
| 24 | 24 | which four directors shall serve three-year terms. | |
| 25 | 25 | (c) Successor directors shall serve three-year terms. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2018. |
