55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the scheduling of the administration of certain
88 postsecondary readiness assessment instruments to public high
99 school students.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 39.0238(c), Education Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 (c) In adopting a schedule for the administration of
1414 postsecondary readiness assessment instruments under this section,
1515 the State Board of Education shall make all reasonable efforts to
1616 schedule end-of-course assessment instruments as required by
1717 Section 39.023(c) so that the administration of those assessment
1818 instruments does not conflict with the administration of a
1919 nationally recognized assessment instrument, examination, or test
2020 administered under a uniform schedule and used by institutions of
2121 higher education to award course credit based on satisfactory
2222 performance on the assessment instrument, examination, or test,
2323 including an advanced placement test or international
2424 baccalaureate examination [require the annual administration of
2525 the postsecondary readiness assessment instruments to occur not
2626 earlier than the second full week in May].
2727 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
2828 school year.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
