| 7 | 7 | | relating to the scheduling of the administration of certain |

| 8 | 8 | | postsecondary readiness assessment instruments to public high |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | school students. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 39.0238(c), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (c) In adopting a schedule for the administration of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | postsecondary readiness assessment instruments under this section, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the State Board of Education shall make all reasonable efforts to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | schedule end-of-course assessment instruments as required by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Section 39.023(c) so that the administration of those assessment |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | instruments does not conflict with the administration of a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | nationally recognized assessment instrument, examination, or test |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | administered under a uniform schedule and used by institutions of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | higher education to award course credit based on satisfactory |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | performance on the assessment instrument, examination, or test, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | including an advanced placement test or international |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | baccalaureate examination [require the annual administration of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the postsecondary readiness assessment instruments to occur not |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | earlier than the second full week in May]. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | school year. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
|---|
