| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 81.053(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) An inactive member may not practice law in this state, | |
| 13 | 13 | except as provided by rule promulgated by the supreme court for | |
| 14 | 14 | volunteer practice, and may not hold an office in the state bar[,] | |
| 15 | 15 | or vote in any election conducted by the state bar. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
