| 11 | 6 | | relating to the regulation or taxation of firearms, air guns, |

| 12 | 7 | | knives, or ammunition by a municipality or county. |

| 13 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 229.001, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 15 | 10 | | amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to |
|---|
| 16 | 11 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 12 | | (a) Notwithstanding any other law, including Section 43.002 |
|---|
| 18 | 13 | | of this code and Chapter 251, Agriculture Code, a municipality may |
|---|
| 19 | 14 | | not adopt or enforce regulations relating to: |
|---|
| 20 | 15 | | (1) the transfer, sale, purchase, private ownership, |
|---|
| 21 | 16 | | keeping, transportation, manufacture, licensing, or registration |
|---|
| 22 | 17 | | of firearms, air guns, knives, ammunition, or firearm or air gun |
|---|
| 23 | 18 | | supplies; or |
|---|
| 24 | 19 | | (2) the discharge of a firearm or air gun at a sport |
|---|
| 25 | 20 | | shooting range. |

| 26 | 21 | | (a-1) A municipality may not impose a tax on firearms, air |
|---|
| 27 | 22 | | guns, knives, ammunition, or firearm or air gun supplies, other |
|---|
| 28 | 23 | | than a tax authorized by state law. |

| 29 | 24 | | SECTION 2. Section 236.002, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 30 | 25 | | amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to |
|---|
| 31 | 26 | | read as follows: |
