99 relating to restrictions on lobbyist expenditures from certain
1010 political contributions.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 305, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 305.029 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 305.029. EXPENDITURES FROM POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS
1515 RESTRICTED. (a) In this section, "political contribution,"
1616 "political committee," and "political expenditure" have the
1717 meanings assigned by Section 251.001, Election Code.
1818 (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person
1919 required to register under this chapter may not, at any time
2020 following the date the last term for which the person was elected
2121 ends, knowingly make or authorize, from political contributions
2222 accepted by the person as a candidate or officeholder, a political
2323 expenditure that is a political contribution to another candidate,
2424 officeholder, or political committee.
2525 (c) This section does not prohibit a person from making a
2626 political contribution or political expenditure in support of the
2727 person's own candidacy.
2828 SECTION 2. Section 305.029, Government Code, as added by
2929 this Act, applies to an expenditure made on or after January 8,
3030 2019, from funds accepted as a political contribution, regardless
3131 of the date the funds were accepted.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 8, 2019.
