8 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Section 2003.022(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
10 | 8 | | to read as follows: |

11 | 9 | | (a) The office is under the direction of a chief |
---|
12 | 10 | | administrative law judge appointed by the governor for a two-year |
---|
13 | 11 | | term that expires on May 15 of each even-numbered year. The chief |
---|
14 | 12 | | administrative law judge is eligible for reappointment. |
---|
15 | 13 | | SECTION 2. Section 2003.022(a), Government Code, as amended |
---|
16 | 14 | | by this Act, applies only to a chief administrative law judge |
---|
17 | 15 | | appointed under that section on or after the effective date of this |
---|
18 | 16 | | Act. A chief administrative law judge appointed before the |
---|
19 | 17 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect |
---|
20 | 18 | | immediately before that date and that law is continued in effect for |
---|
21 | 19 | | that purpose. |
---|
22 | 20 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
