| 11 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 54, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 54.0051 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 10 | | Sec. 54.0051. DISCLOSURE OF COURSE FEES IN COURSE CATALOG. |
|---|
| 15 | 11 | | Each institution of higher education shall include in the |
|---|
| 16 | 12 | | institution's online course catalog, for each course listed in the |
|---|
| 17 | 13 | | catalog, a description and the amount of any special course fee, |
|---|
| 18 | 14 | | including an online access fee or lab fee, to be charged |
|---|
| 19 | 15 | | specifically for the course. If the institution publishes a paper |
|---|
| 20 | 16 | | course catalog, the institution may publish any fees specifically |
|---|
| 21 | 17 | | charged for each course using the amounts charged in the most recent |
|---|
| 22 | 18 | | academic year. |
|---|
| 23 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 54.0051, Education Code, as added by |
|---|
| 24 | 20 | | this Act, applies beginning with course catalogs published for the |
|---|
| 25 | 21 | | 2018-2019 academic year. |
|---|
| 26 | 22 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 23 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 24 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 25 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 26 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
