| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 29.2021 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 29.2021. TRANSPORTATION. (a) The school district in | |
| 13 | 13 | which a student resides shall provide each student attending in | |
| 14 | 14 | accordance with this subchapter another school in the district or a | |
| 15 | 15 | school in a contiguous school district with transportation free of | |
| 16 | 16 | charge to and from the school the student attends. | |
| 17 | 17 | (b) The school district in which a student resides may | |
| 18 | 18 | contract with a private entity or another school district for | |
| 19 | 19 | transportation services necessary to provide transportation | |
| 20 | 20 | required under Subsection (a). | |
| 21 | 21 | (c) The school district in which a student resides shall | |
| 22 | 22 | provide each student attending a school in another school district | |
| 23 | 23 | in accordance with this subchapter that is not contiguous to the | |
| 24 | 24 | district in which the student resides with transportation free of | |
| 25 | 25 | charge to and from the school the student would otherwise attend. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 2. Section 29.203(f), Education Code, is repealed. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
