The bill would amend the Education Code to require the State Board of Education to adopt criteria to allow a student to earn one credit of the two-credit graduation requirement for languages other than English by successfully completing a dual language immersion program in elementary school. The bill would take effect immediately if passed within the necessary voting margins, or September 1, 2017.The Texas Education Agency indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
