7	5		relating to the public high school graduation credit requirements
8	6		for a language other than English.
9	7		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
10	8		SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by
11	9		adding Subsection (b-21) to read as follows:
12	10		(b-21) In adopting rules under Subsection (b-1), the State
13	11		Board of Education shall adopt criteria to allow a student to comply
14	12		with the curriculum requirement for one credit under Subsection
15	13		(b-1)(5) by successfully completing a dual language immersion
16	14		program under Section 28.0051 at an elementary school.
17	15		SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
18	16		a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
19	17		provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
20	18		Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
21	19		Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
