66 AN ACT
77 relating to the establishment of a kinship caregiver navigator
88 program by the Health and Human Services Commission.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 531, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 531.0881 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 531.0881. KINSHIP CAREGIVER NAVIGATOR PROGRAM. (a)
1313 The executive commissioner, using existing resources, shall
1414 establish a statewide kinship caregiver navigator program that
1515 facilitates access to information and referrals to services for
1616 relative and kinship caregivers of children.
1717 (b) The kinship caregiver navigator program established
1818 under this section must include an information and referral
1919 network. The information and referral network shall incorporate all
2020 health and human services agencies and divisions within the
2121 commission that provide services to children, including:
2222 (1) the Department of Family and Protective Services;
2323 (2) the Department of State Health Services; and
2424 (3) any division of the commission that oversees:
2525 (A) social services;
2626 (B) community-based services; or
2727 (C) access and eligibility for Medicaid or the
2828 child health plan program and the services provided through those
2929 programs.
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
