The bill would amend the Family Code to authorize a court to render a protective order that exceeds two years if the court finds that the person who is the subject of the protective order committed a felony offense involving family violence against the applicant or a member of the applicant's family or household, regardless of if that person has been charged with or convicted of the offense. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
