66 AN ACT
77 relating to the designation of Remember the Alamo Day as a state
88 holiday.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1313 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (7) [(6)], Government Code.
1414 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1515 to read as follows:
1616 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1717 (1) the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes Day,"
1818 in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate
1919 heroes;
2020 (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day";
2121 (3) the sixth day of March, "Remember the Alamo Day,"
2222 in honor of Davy Crockett, Gregorio Esparza, James Bowie, Toribio
2323 Losoya, William B. Travis, and all who fought and died at the battle
2424 of the Alamo for the independence of the great State of Texas;
2525 (4) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2626 (5) [(4)] the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in
2727 Texas," in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2828 (6) [(5)] the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines
2929 Johnson Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines
3030 Johnson;
3131 (7) [(6)] the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
3232 (8) [(7)] the 24th day of December; and
3333 (9) [(8)] the 26th day of December.
3434 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3535 read as follows:
3636 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3737 only the following days:
3838 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3939 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
4040 through (7) [(6)].
4141 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
