| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 951.003(b), Occupations Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) A law pertaining to [legal service contracts under | |
| 13 | 13 | Chapter 953 or] insurance does not apply to a program under this | |
| 14 | 14 | chapter. | |
| 15 | 15 | SECTION 2. Chapter 953, Occupations Code, is repealed. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 3. (a) On the effective date of this Act: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) a disciplinary proceeding pending before the Texas | |
| 18 | 18 | Department of Licensing and Regulation relating to an alleged | |
| 19 | 19 | violation of former Chapter 953, Occupations Code, is dismissed; | |
| 20 | 20 | and | |
| 21 | 21 | (2) a registration issued under former Chapter 953, | |
| 22 | 22 | Occupations Code, expires. | |
| 23 | 23 | (b) As soon as practicable after the effective date of this | |
| 24 | 24 | Act, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall repeal | |
| 25 | 25 | all rules regarding the regulation of for-profit legal service | |
| 26 | 26 | contract companies adopted under former Chapter 953, Occupations | |
| 27 | 27 | Code. | |
| 28 | 28 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
