| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1071.053, Special District Local Laws | |
| 11 | 11 | Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 1071.053. BALLOT APPLICATION [PETITION]. A person who | |
| 13 | 13 | wants to have the person's name printed on the ballot as a candidate | |
| 14 | 14 | for director must file with the board secretary an application in | |
| 15 | 15 | accordance with Chapter 144, Election Code [a petition requesting | |
| 16 | 16 | that action. The petition must be: | |
| 17 | 17 | [(1) signed by at least 25 registered voters; and | |
| 18 | 18 | [(2) filed not later than the 25th day before the date | |
| 19 | 19 | of the election]. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
