| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 441.127, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a-1) In establishing the accreditation standards under | |
| 13 | 13 | Subsection (a), the commission may not require the governing body | |
| 14 | 14 | of a library that proposes to become a member of a major resource | |
| 15 | 15 | system or regional library system to satisfy minimum requirements | |
| 16 | 16 | related to: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) local operating expenditures; | |
| 18 | 18 | (2) collections based on publication dates; | |
| 19 | 19 | (3) hours the library is open to the public; or | |
| 20 | 20 | (4) the number or classification of library employees. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2018, the Texas State | |
| 22 | 22 | Library and Archives Commission shall adopt or repeal any rules | |
| 23 | 23 | necessary to comply with Section 441.127(a-1), Government Code, as | |
| 24 | 24 | added by this Act. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
