55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, La Entrada al Pacifico is a state and federally
77 designated trade corridor that is designed to connect West Texas
88 with the Pacific port of Topolobampo in the state of Sinaloa,
99 Mexico; and
1010 WHEREAS, This major new trade corridor, "the Gateway to the
1111 Pacific," was conceived in the 1990s to maximize the opportunities
1212 created by the North American Free Trade Agreement; the project has
1313 been advanced by a dynamic coalition that includes the
1414 Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance and the economic
1515 development departments of the States of Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and
1616 Durango; and
1717 WHEREAS, Over the past two decades, trade with Mexico has
1818 continued to grow, and this new corridor will increase trade
1919 between West Texas and Chihuahua, one of the Lone Star State's
2020 largest export markets; and
2121 WHEREAS, The corridor will allow businesses in the
2222 Midland-Odessa area to access the Pacific Rim and East Asian
2323 nations through Topolobampo, a closer and less expensive
2424 alternative to the crowded Port of Los Angeles, and it will ease
2525 pressure on the highly congested international crossing at El Paso;
2626 and
2727 WHEREAS, The corridor will provide the communities it serves
2828 with enormous opportunities to participate in global economic
2929 expansion, and its completion will contribute significantly to the
3030 prosperity of Texas, Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
3333 hereby express support for the completion of La Entrada al Pacifico
3434 international trade corridor.
