5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The city of Mineola lost a beloved resident with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Frances Debora McBride Collins on February 20, 2017, at |

7 | 7 | | the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1925 in the community of Hopewell, the |
---|
9 | 9 | | former Frances McBride graduated from John Tyler High School in |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1941; she worked as an elevator operator in People's National Bank |
---|
11 | 11 | | in Tyler before taking a job with the Cotton Belt Railway; during |
---|
12 | 12 | | World War II, she won the distinction of being named Miss Camp |
---|
13 | 13 | | Fannin at the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center near Tyler; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, She married Wayne Collins in 1948, and the couple |
---|
15 | 15 | | made their home in Mineola, where they owned and operated Collins, a |
---|
16 | 16 | | clothing and gift store; Mrs. Collins played an important role in |
---|
17 | 17 | | the business, working at the cosmetics counter, modeling the |
---|
18 | 18 | | clothing at fashion shows in Mineola and Tyler, and accompanying |
---|
19 | 19 | | her husband on buying trips to Dallas and New York; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A devoted mother, Mrs. Collins took great pride in |
---|
21 | 21 | | her four children, Craig, Corey, Cristle, and Clay, and she |
---|
22 | 22 | | actively participated in the PTA and in running the Band Booster |
---|
23 | 23 | | concession stand; as the years passed, she was further blessed with |
---|
24 | 24 | | 10 beloved grandchildren; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in her community, Mrs. Collins was a valued |
---|
26 | 26 | | member of the First Baptist Church of Mineola and the local chapter |
---|
27 | 27 | | of the Philanthropic Educational Organization; in her leisure time, |
---|
28 | 28 | | she enjoyed gardening and landscaping, and she received the Yard of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Month Award from the Mineola Garden Club on multiple occasions; |
---|
30 | 30 | | and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Frances Collins lived a full and generous life |
---|
32 | 32 | | surrounded by those she loved, and she will forever be remembered |
---|
33 | 33 | | with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
35 | 35 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frances Debora McBride Collins |
---|
36 | 36 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to her relatives and many friends; |
---|
37 | 37 | | and, be it further |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

39 | 39 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

40 | 40 | | Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
