| 7 | 7 | | under Article V of the United States Constitution for the limited |

| 8 | 8 | | purpose of proposing an amendment to the constitution to limit the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | terms of office of members of Congress. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Article V of the United States Constitution provides |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | that on application of the legislatures of two-thirds of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | several states, the United States Congress shall call a convention |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for proposing an amendment to that constitution; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | it |

| 15 | 15 | | RESOLVED, That, the 85th Texas Legislature hereby makes an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | application to Congress, as provided by Article V of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Constitution of the United States of America, to call a convention |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | limited to proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | States of America to set a limit on the number of terms that a person |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | may be elected as a Member of the United States House of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Representatives and to set a limit on the number of terms that a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | person may be elected as a Member of the United States Senate; and, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | be it further |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That, the Secretary of State is hereby directed to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | transmit copies of this application to the President and Secretary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of the Senate of the United States and to the Speaker, Clerk and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Judiciary Committee Chairman of the House of Representatives of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Congress of the United States, and copies to the members of the said |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Senate and House of Representatives from this State; also to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | transmit copies hereof to the presiding officers of each of the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | legislative houses in the several States, requesting their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | cooperation; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That, this application shall be considered as |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | covering the same subject matter as the applications from other |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | States to Congress to call a convention to set a limit on the number |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of terms that a person may be elected to the House of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Representatives of the Congress of the United States and the Senate |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | of the United States; and this application shall be aggregated with |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | same for the purpose of attaining the two-thirds of states |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | necessary to require Congress to call a limited convention on this |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | subject, but shall not be aggregated with any other applications on |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | any other subject; and, be it further |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That, this application constitutes a continuing |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | application in accordance with Article V of the Constitution of the |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | United States of America until the legislatures of at least |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | two-thirds of the several states have made applications on the same |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | subject. |
