55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment providing for the recognition
77 of equal rights of all people.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 3, Article I, Texas Constitution, is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 3. All [free] men and women, when they form a social
1212 compact, have equal rights, and no man or woman, or set of men or
1313 women, is entitled to exclusive separate public emoluments, or
1414 privileges, but in consideration of public services.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 3a, Article I, Texas Constitution, is
1616 amended to read as follows:
1717 Sec. 3a. Equality under the law shall not be denied or
1818 abridged because of sex, race, color, creed, military status,
1919 health status, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or
2020 expression, age, religion, disability, genetic information,
2121 family, marital status, previous incarceration, or national
2222 origin. This amendment is self-operative.
2323 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2424 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017.
2525 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2626 proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for the
2727 recognition of equal rights of all people."
