| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been |

| 3 | 3 | | enhanced by a great and enduring love, Johnny and Bonnie Cates of |

| 4 | 4 | | Quitman are celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary on |

| 5 | 5 | | April 7, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, On that memorable day in 1955, high school |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | sweethearts Johnny Cates and the former Bonnie Williams were |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | joined in matrimony in a ceremony held at the First Baptist |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Church of Gilmer; over the years, they became the parents of four |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | children, Steve, Amanda, Laura Lee, and the late Scott Cates, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | today their fine family has grown to include two additional |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | generations; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Valued residents of Quitman since 1970, the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | couple are now both retired; Mr. Cates served as a colonel in the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas National Guard and Reserve and worked for the Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Agricultural Extension Service, while Mrs. Cates enjoyed a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | notable career with the Quitman Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 62 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Johnny and Bonnie Cates on the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | occasion of their 62nd wedding anniversary and extend to them |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
