SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 140 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Texas Adoptee Rights, a nonprofit organization working to educate all citizens of Texas about the unique challenges faced by adult adoptees across the state in accessing their own information; and WHEREAS, Through education and legislative reform, Texas Adoptee Rights works tirelessly to restore equal access to original birth certificates for Texas' adopted adult citizens; and WHEREAS, Texas Adoptee Rights is a statewide organization with members representing the 254 counties of Texas; in addition, the organization serves those adoptees and their families beyond Texas' borders whose births and adoptions occurred in Texas; and WHEREAS, The members of this dedicated organization promote honesty and transparency in adoption practices and simultaneously strive to rectify the unintended consequences of past practices and to set forth a more efficient, just, and humane system for future generations; and WHEREAS, Texas Adoptee Rights, as indicated by its membership, represents the interests of all three groups that form the adoption triad: birth parents, adult adoptees, and adoptive parents; and WHEREAS, Through the organization's legislative reform efforts, Texas Adoptee Rights strives to eliminate for all Texans the hardships they endure due to such issues as passport denials and the lack of family health histories; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Texas Adoptee Rights and proclaim February 6, 2017, Texas Adoptee Rights Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of Texas Adoptee Rights Day at the Capitol.
