| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join citizens across the state in celebrating February 8, 2017, |

| 4 | 4 | | as Communities In Schools Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas was established |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | in Houston in 1979; the organization's mission is to surround |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | students with a community of support that will empower them and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | help them to stay in school and achieve their goals; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The organization builds partnerships with school |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | districts, businesses, and communities in order to provide |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | critical services to students who are at risk of dropping out of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | school; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In the years since its inception, Communities In |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Schools of Texas has expanded to include 28 programs that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | annually serve more than 93,000 at-risk students in 942 Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | schools; among students participating in the program, 92 percent |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | make improvements in their classroom behavior, and 95 percent are |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | promoted to the next grade level; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | immeasurable importance that helps young Texans prepare for the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | years ahead and build bright and successful futures; it is indeed |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | fitting that we honor those associated with the organization for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | their work on behalf of the students of the Lone Star State; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | success of Communities In Schools of Texas and extend to them |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | best wishes for an enjoyable Communities In Schools Day at the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this |
