| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Hood County in recognizing February 15, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 2017, as Hood County Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hood County was named for Confederate General |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | John Bell Hood; organized in 1866 from Johnson County, the area |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | is known for its rolling grasslands, sandy soil, and majestic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | pecan and oak trees; the county is crossed by the Paluxy and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Brazos Rivers and is home to Lake Granbury, a scenic site for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | fishing, boating, picnicking, and other recreational |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | activities; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Granbury, the county seat, was founded in 1854; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the town is picturesquely situated on Lake Granbury and is known |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for its celebrations and festivals, its historic downtown |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | district, and its fine antique shops and historic homes; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Granbury's historic square showcases the Hood County Courthouse |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and was named the best town square in Texas by the readers of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Texas Highways magazine; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Many of Granbury's fine old homes are open during |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the traditional candlelight tour in December; other noteworthy |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | attractions include the Granbury Opera House, the Hood County |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Museum, and the Granbury Rose, an authentic sternwheeler; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Noted for its colorful past, Hood County is also |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | known for its agribusiness, tourism, and gas production; its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | chief crops include hay, peanuts, and pecans; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Hood County Day is an opportunity for the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | residents of this fine Texas county to celebrate their history, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | their accomplishments, and their prospects for the future; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the citizens of Hood |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | County for their exemplary restoration of historical sites, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | their preservation of the county's many amenities, and their |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state; and, be |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | the citizens of Hood County as an expression of high regard from |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | the Texas Senate. |
