| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Portland First United Methodist Church on the occasion |

| 4 | 4 | | of its 90th anniversary, which was celebrated throughout the |

| 5 | 5 | | month of November in 2016; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Portland First United |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Methodist Church has been a source of inspiration to the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | community, and over the years, it has ministered faithfully to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the needs of innumerable Christians; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | former pastors and the outstanding leadership of Pastor Pamela |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Dykehouse, the church has continued to grow and to undertake many |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worthy projects in the community; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Portland First United Methodist Church has become |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | an invaluable source of strength for members during times of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | hardship and bereavement and a source of fellowship in times of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | abundance and prosperity; future plans for the church include the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | construction of a memorial prayer garden and columbarium; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The church initiated its 90th anniversary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | celebration on November 6, and the celebration continued |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | throughout the month with special worship services, music |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | offerings, a guest preacher, and additional opportunities for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | congregants to gather and reflect on the church's rich history |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and influential role in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of Portland First United Methodist Church on the joyous occasion |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of its 90th anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the church as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
