| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Della Freeman on the grand occasion of her 103rd |

|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Della "Mother Freeman" was born on January 30, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1914, before the onset of World War I and in a time when Pancho |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Villa was still leading the Mexican Revolution; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, She moved from Dayton, Texas, to Port Arthur |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | during her teenage years, and she graduated from Abraham Lincoln |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | High School in 1934, when the school served only African American |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | students; she is the last living graduate of her class; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After high school, Mother Freeman moved to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | California and found work at the Los Angeles Probation |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Department; she met her true love in Los Angeles, and she was |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | married for 42 years until her husband's death in 1999; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mother Freeman is a beloved member of her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community; she has lived through times and experienced events |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | that many people know only from history books, and there is much |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to be learned from her wisdom; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Della Freeman as a treasured |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | citizen of Texas and congratulate her on her 103rd birthday; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
