                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 191
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State
 Library and Archives Commission for launching the Read Across
 Texas program; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas Center for the Book is administered by
 the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to encourage
 literacy, library use, and a love of reading throughout Texas;
 this year, the center initiated a new statewide reading campaign
 to help bring communities together, to celebrate reading, and to
 promote discourse on issues that affect all Texans; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, the Read Across Texas program will
 promote a new theme to encourage citizens to reflect on common
 experiences, and the theme this year is "The Veteran Experience:
 Welcoming Them Home"; every community in Texas is touched by the
 sacrifices of our 1,675,000 veterans, and we are all made
 stronger by reflecting on their challenges and wisdom; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State
 Library and Archives Commission have selected four books relating
 to veterans to promote meaningful discussion among citizens; the
 center has partnered with the Texas Veterans Commission, the
 Military Veterans Peer Network, and public libraries throughout
 the state to encourage Texas families and communities to
 participate in this important program; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Center for the Book and the
 Texas State Library and Archives Commission on initiating the
 Read Across Texas program and extend to all associated with the
 program best wishes for success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this inaugural program.
