| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State |

| 4 | 4 | | Library and Archives Commission for launching the Read Across |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Texas program; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Center for the Book is administered by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to encourage |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | literacy, library use, and a love of reading throughout Texas; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | this year, the center initiated a new statewide reading campaign |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to help bring communities together, to celebrate reading, and to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | promote discourse on issues that affect all Texans; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Read Across Texas program will |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | promote a new theme to encourage citizens to reflect on common |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | experiences, and the theme this year is "The Veteran Experience: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Welcoming Them Home"; every community in Texas is touched by the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | sacrifices of our 1,675,000 veterans, and we are all made |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | stronger by reflecting on their challenges and wisdom; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Library and Archives Commission have selected four books relating |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to veterans to promote meaningful discussion among citizens; the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | center has partnered with the Texas Veterans Commission, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Military Veterans Peer Network, and public libraries throughout |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the state to encourage Texas families and communities to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | participate in this important program; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Center for the Book and the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Texas State Library and Archives Commission on initiating the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Read Across Texas program and extend to all associated with the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | program best wishes for success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | honor of this inaugural program. |
