SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 205
WHEREAS, Proud members of the Texas Court Reporters
Association are visiting the State Capitol on February 15, 2017,
in celebration of National Court Reporting and Captioning Week,
taking place February 11-18; and
WHEREAS, Established in the 1930s, the Texas Court
Reporters Association works to advance the profession of
stenographic court reporting through education, advocacy, and
service to its members; the organization helps to develop high
standards for those employed in the field and also offers them
opportunities to network with their peers and to discuss best
practices and important issues confronting the industry; and
WHEREAS, Court reporters are dedicated to accurately and
impartially capturing and preserving the spoken word through
stenographic means; in addition to official reporters employed
directly by the courts, members of the profession include
freelancers, broadcast captioners, and Communications Access
Realtime Translation captioners, who are often employed in
classroom settings to assist those with impaired hearing; in all
of these endeavors, court reporters and captioners use
cutting-edge technology in order to translate the spoken word to
text with near simultaneity; and
WHEREAS, Individuals working in this dynamic field
contribute immeasurably to the legal system and facilitate a
range of communication initiatives, and National Court Reporting
and Captioning Week provides a welcome opportunity to recognize
their multifaceted profession; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Court Reporters Association
on the occasion of the organization's visit to the State Capitol
during National Court Reporting and Captioning Week and extend to
the group's members sincere best wishes for success with their
important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the association as an expression of high regard from the Texas
Senate.
