| 3 | 3 | | Association are visiting the State Capitol on February 15, 2017, |

| 4 | 4 | | in celebration of National Court Reporting and Captioning Week, |

| 5 | 5 | | taking place February 11-18; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Established in the 1930s, the Texas Court |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Reporters Association works to advance the profession of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | stenographic court reporting through education, advocacy, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | service to its members; the organization helps to develop high |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | standards for those employed in the field and also offers them |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | opportunities to network with their peers and to discuss best |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | practices and important issues confronting the industry; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Court reporters are dedicated to accurately and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | impartially capturing and preserving the spoken word through |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | stenographic means; in addition to official reporters employed |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | directly by the courts, members of the profession include |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | freelancers, broadcast captioners, and Communications Access |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Realtime Translation captioners, who are often employed in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | classroom settings to assist those with impaired hearing; in all |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of these endeavors, court reporters and captioners use |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cutting-edge technology in order to translate the spoken word to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | text with near simultaneity; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Individuals working in this dynamic field |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contribute immeasurably to the legal system and facilitate a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | range of communication initiatives, and National Court Reporting |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and Captioning Week provides a welcome opportunity to recognize |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their multifaceted profession; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Court Reporters Association |

| 30 | 30 | | on the occasion of the organization's visit to the State Capitol |

| 31 | 31 | | during National Court Reporting and Captioning Week and extend to |

| 32 | 32 | | the group's members sincere best wishes for success with their |
