| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great |

| 3 | 3 | | pleasure in recognizing First Lady Cecilia Abbott, the first |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Hispanic first lady of Texas, for her outstanding service on |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | behalf of the citizens of the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, Cecilia |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Abbott was raised in San Antonio by parents who were educators |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and who instilled in their children a love of learning and a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | commitment to helping others; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Motivated by her love of knowledge, she earned a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degrees in both |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | education and theology from the University of Saint Thomas in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Houston; she began her career as a teacher, and over the years, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | she served as an instructor and administrator at several Catholic |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | schools across the state; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Abbott retired from the field of education in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2001 to pursue new avenues in civic service, and she accepted the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | role of managing director of community relations for a company |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | that specializes in senior health care facilities and services; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | she was appointed to the State Board for Educator Certification |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | by former Governor Rick Perry, and she served the board with |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | distinction for seven years; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In addition to dedicating her professional life |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to public service, Cecilia Abbott has volunteered her time in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | leadership roles for numerous civic, educational, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | philanthropic organizations; she is an example to young women |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | throughout the state, and Texans everywhere are indeed honored to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | call her first lady; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend First Lady of Texas Cecilia Abbott |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | for her devotion to the citizens of Texas and for her many |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | contributions to the state and extend to her best wishes in all |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | her endeavors; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
