| 3 | 3 | | role in higher education in the State of Texas, and on February 7, |

| 4 | 4 | | 2017, Texas community college students, administrators, and |

| 5 | 5 | | instructors are gathering at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Community college leaders, students, trustees, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | members of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, and the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Community College Association of Texas Trustees have joined |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | together to discuss the essential contributions their schools |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | make to the state; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The total annual enrollment for Texas community |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and technical colleges exceeds 700,000 students, accounting for |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | almost half of the state's postsecondary population and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | largest sector of higher education; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The community colleges of Texas clearly serve a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | vital function in the education and economic development of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | state, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome these outstanding |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | students, instructors, trustees, and administrators to Austin; |

| 19 | 19 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Community |
