5	5	WHEREAS, A life filled with meaningful accomplishments
6	6	drew to a close with the passing of Billy Pat Martin of
7	7	Daingerfield on July 3, 2016, at the age of 89; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Sulphur Bluff on June 22, 1927, to Murley
9	9	and Kate Martin, Bill Martin grew up with the companionship of
10	10	his sister, the late LaVerne Martin Hicks; he married the love of
11	11	his life, Betty Lynn Dalby, on July 10, 1953, in what was the
12	12	first wedding held in the new sanctuary of the First Methodist
13	13	Church of Daingerfield; the proud father of two sons, Billy John
14	14	and Walter Lee, he later saw his family grow to include four
15	15	grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Martin
17	17	served in the United States Army near the end of World War II; he
18	18	went on to work for Lone Star Steel Company, and he was co-owner
19	19	of Martin's General Merchandise, Martin's Auto Parts, and
20	20	Martin's Tax and Bookkeeping Service, continuing his productive
21	21	work life until retiring at the age of 87; and
22	22	WHEREAS, A devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a
23	23	dedicated business owner, Bill Martin leaves behind a legacy that
24	24	will continue to inspire all those who had the good fortune to
25	25	know him; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
27	27	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Pat Martin
28	28	and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
29	29	his wife, Betty; to his sons, Billy John Martin and his wife,
30	30	Jackie, and Walter Lee Martin and his wife, Jill; to his
31	31	grandchildren, Paul and Brian Martin, Terry Runk, and Nichole
32	32	Waddill; to his great-grandchildren, Caytlyn and William Jack
33	33	Martin, Graci and Maggie Runk, and Ashten and Maylee Waddill; and
34	34	to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
36	36	his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
37	37	so in memory of Bill Martin.
