SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223 WHEREAS, Captain Jack Newman retired from the Mineola Police Department in January 2017, drawing to a close an exemplary career that spanned more than three decades with the department; and WHEREAS, In 1983, Jack Newman joined the Rains County Sheriff's Office, where he was employed for seven months; he embarked on his noteworthy tenure with the City of Mineola in May 1984 as a patrol officer; and WHEREAS, Captain Newman served as a DARE officer for 14 years and worked tirelessly to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse; in addition, he helped coordinate National Night Out, Texans Against Crime, the Citizens Police Academy, and the Junior Police Academy, and he was the longtime liaison for Mineola Crime Stoppers; and WHEREAS, A Master Peace Officer, crime prevention inspector, and insurance inspector, Captain Newman earned certifications as a SWAT officer, animal control officer, and field training officer; he is also certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Taser and firearms instructor; and WHEREAS, Jack Newman's steadfast commitment to public safety greatly benefited the citizens of Mineola, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Captain Jack Newman on his retirement from the Mineola Police Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Captain Newman as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
