| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Captain Jack Newman retired from the Mineola |

| 3 | 3 | | Police Department in January 2017, drawing to a close an |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | exemplary career that spanned more than three decades with the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | department; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In 1983, Jack Newman joined the Rains County |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Sheriff's Office, where he was employed for seven months; he |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | embarked on his noteworthy tenure with the City of Mineola in May |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1984 as a patrol officer; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Captain Newman served as a DARE officer for 14 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | years and worked tirelessly to educate young people about the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | dangers of drug abuse; in addition, he helped coordinate National |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Night Out, Texans Against Crime, the Citizens Police Academy, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Junior Police Academy, and he was the longtime liaison for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Mineola Crime Stoppers; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A Master Peace Officer, crime prevention inspector, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and insurance inspector, Captain Newman earned certifications as |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | a SWAT officer, animal control officer, and field training |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | officer; he is also certified by the Texas Commission on Law |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Enforcement as a Taser and firearms instructor; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Jack Newman's steadfast commitment to public |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | safety greatly benefited the citizens of Mineola, and he may |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Captain Jack Newman on his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | retirement from the Mineola Police Department and extend to him |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Captain Newman as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
