| 5 | 5 | | commissioner of education, Mike Morath; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1987 by the Milken Family Foundation, |

| 7 | 7 | | this prestigious award recognizes teachers who demonstrate a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | commitment to excellence in the field of education; in addition |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to offering professional development opportunities, the honor is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | accompanied by a $25,000 cash prize; Amber Simpson was one of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | only 29 educators across the country to be selected for the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 2016-2017 award and the only teacher in Texas to be chosen; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Amber Simpson earned her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | interdisciplinary studies from Texas State University in 1999 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | before going on to receive her master's degree in educational |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leadership from Concordia University in 2003; as a Teacher |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Advancement Program master teacher at Barrera Veterans |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Elementary School, she helps implement the System for Teacher and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Student Advancement by providing vital mentorship and training |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | opportunities for teachers across the campus and leading regular |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | professional development meetings, and she serves on several |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | curriculum committees within the Somerset Independent School |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | District; moreover, she invests countless hours providing |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | one-on-one tutoring for students; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication and inspiring leadership, |

| 26 | 26 | | Amber Simpson embodies the hallmarks of an outstanding educator, |

| 27 | 27 | | and she has earned the respect and admiration of all who know her; |
