SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 234 In Memory of Robert Lyons WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of Robert Lyons, who died January 25, 2017, at the age of 62; and WHEREAS, Bobby Lyons was born on June 15, 1954, in Orlando, Florida, and his family settled in El Paso when he was a teenager; he became a varsity golfer while attending Burgess High School, and he went on to earn a bachelor of business administration degree from The University of Texas at El Paso; and WHEREAS, Bobby contributed greatly to the vitality of the El Paso community as a successful restaurateur; by the age of 23, he had opened his first business, Lyons Bar and Restaurant, and he later became the owner and operator of the Kona Kreek Steakhouse; he played a key role in reviving the El Paso Club, a time-honored social club located at the top of the Chase Building downtown, and he served as general manager of the establishment for six years; and WHEREAS, Bobby Lyons was known as the quintessential gentleman, and he always looked forward to a round of golf, a Chevy Chase comedy, or a good scotch; he was a devoted son and father and a beloved member of his community, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Robert Lyons; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert Lyons.
