| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome the visiting delegation from Pearland on the occasion of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Pearland Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of Pearland was established in 1893 and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | named for the fruit trees that were planted to attract land |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | buyers to the area; hurricanes and other forms of harsh weather |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | decimated the orchards in the initial decades of the city's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | history, however the city began to thrive in 1894 when the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Southern Homestead Company built the town's first building, a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | railroad station depot that is still standing; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Today, the city boasts a flourishing economy and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | effective school systems; the local chamber of commerce works |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | diligently to continue the city's course of successful |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | development and helps to keep the citizenry informed on matters |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | that affect the community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Pearland enjoy the benefit of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | city's proximity to Houston and to Galveston's attractions, while |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | cherishing the unique charm of their beloved community; Pearland |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | was recognized by the National Civic League in 1999 as an |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | All-America City; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Pearland is an outstanding city in which to live, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | work, and raise a family, and citizens can indeed take pride in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the place they call home; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 2017, as Pearland Day |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation best |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wishes for a memorable day in Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | honor of this special occasion. |
