11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 242
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Bishop George Sampleton, who is being honored by the
44 congregants of Inspiration Pentecostal Church in Bastrop during
55 Black History Month; and
66 WHEREAS, George Sampleton is a pioneering community leader
77 who persevered during the tumultuous years of the civil rights
88 movement; and
99 WHEREAS, In the midst of trauma, continual setbacks, and
1010 civil unrest, Bishop Sampleton stayed committed to the highest
1111 principles of social activism and helped pave the path for
1212 equality with determined, peaceful resistance; and
1313 WHEREAS, A man of great courage, compassion, and wisdom, he
1414 has mentored countless individuals over the years, and he is
1515 beloved by congregants for his spiritual guidance and valued
1616 counsel; and
1717 WHEREAS, Bishop Sampleton has led an exemplary life, and he
1818 has inspired others to become engaged in their communities and to
1919 work diligently for a fair and just society; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2121 Legislature, hereby commend Bishop George Sampleton for his
2222 contributions to the community as a champion for civil rights and
2323 as a spiritual leader and extend to him best wishes in all his
2424 future endeavors; and, be it further
2525 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2626 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
