| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Bishop George Sampleton, who is being honored by the |

| 4 | 4 | | congregants of Inspiration Pentecostal Church in Bastrop during |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Black History Month; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, George Sampleton is a pioneering community leader |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who persevered during the tumultuous years of the civil rights |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | movement; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the midst of trauma, continual setbacks, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | civil unrest, Bishop Sampleton stayed committed to the highest |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | principles of social activism and helped pave the path for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | equality with determined, peaceful resistance; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A man of great courage, compassion, and wisdom, he |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | has mentored countless individuals over the years, and he is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | beloved by congregants for his spiritual guidance and valued |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | counsel; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Bishop Sampleton has led an exemplary life, and he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | has inspired others to become engaged in their communities and to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | work diligently for a fair and just society; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby commend Bishop George Sampleton for his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | contributions to the community as a champion for civil rights and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | as a spiritual leader and extend to him best wishes in all his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | future endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
